Innovation Hub

In keeping with our organizational approach and framework for engagement in the existing context of the country, we will continue to explore all options to onboard, involve and engage all segments of the Afghan society for identifying and solving complex socio-economic, human development and environmental problems facing the country. Our Innovation Hub is a step in this direction.

Using this platform, we intend to collaboratively work with social innovators, entrepreneurs, technologists, researchers, youth, community-based organizations, civil society organizations, other like-minded national and international organizations as well as the Afghan communities for developing context-specific innovative solutions for the pressing socio-economic, human development and environmental challenges facing Afghanistan.

The functions and activities of the Innovation Hub will include but will not be limited to the following:

ODIR will Provide a platform for innovators to develop, launch and scale their unique initiatives with potentials for solving a complex social, development and environmental problems. Considering innovation is an iterative process, ODIR will provide training and support to innovators during all stages, from identifying the solution, to testing the prototype to implementing and scaling the solution. These innovators can be individuals, youth, community-based organizations, civil society organizations or other entities.

ODIR will provide support to impact-oriented startups with realization of their business ideas and capacity enhancement in business planning, research & development and business operations management. Priority will be given to startups with innovative models that are duly aligned with the emerging realities of the country and contributes to the sustainable development of the country.

ODIR has developed a project for the promotion of and skills development of Afghan youth in emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Block chain, IoT, E-commerce etc. ODIR will use the Innovation Hub platform for the implementation of this project and will strive to ensure the capacity building of the Afghan youth in emerging technologies duly contribute to the development of innovative products and services that contribute to addressing the socio-economic and human development challenges of the country.

ODIR will establish a community of practice (COP) on the theme of social innovation for sustainable development. The COP is aimed at bringing together national and international experts on the theme for dialogue and solutions exchange for the promotion of social innovation in Afghanistan. A robust knowledge management framework and system will be developed for this purpose so that the generated knowledge is duly utilized for influencing policy and practice for addressing the complex social challenges facing the country.

ODIR will organize, seminars, workshops, training and awareness raising programs on the theme of social innovation & social entrepreneurship and its importance in contexts such as Afghanistan.

Other relevant initiatives, which will promote the use of innovation and technology for addressing the complex challenges facing Afghanistan in the areas of human development, peacebuilding, social cohesion and environmental protection.
